BRANDING

In April 2023, I worked with APU student and animator, Shelby Uchida, as the designer for her film, Stilhouette. I saw her concept for the animation and was immediately intrigued by her collision of ghostly horror and creepy obsession in a visually animated setting. It reminded me a bit of The Phantom of the Opera, but her idea was still completely unique. I reached out to Shelby with accolades as well as beginning ideas for visuals. The heart of the plan that we agreed on was an aggressive cursive font that captured the contrast between the airy quality of a silhouette and the sharp, vicious quality of a dagger. I found fire to be important to the film as well, so I captured the silhouette of the specter in the flame with his own ghostly hand scraping at the wall behind it.
